I Am Not Really Woman, Personally. But maybe sort of.

Hi everyone. Welcome to the blog. I’ll give more of a justification for its existence later. But part of it is just as a nice place to post some things I find around the internet that I want to have a nice convenient place to store for later perusal.
Which is another way to say that I want to post these links just because I like them:
First of all, let’s consider Dusty Springfield doing “I Am Woman:”
Now, I’d seen Helen Reddy do that song originally, and I thought to myself - hey myself, so that’s the song people had been referring to all those years when they referred to some sort of “I Am Woman” song! And I was all into it. And then I saw Dusty Springfield doing it, and she kind of just blew poor Helen Reddy out of the water. Damn. I’m not woman, but Dusty makes me think that maybe I am, sort of. Just a bit.
And although the song really is over-everythinged- in that “Me and Bobby McGee” kind of way (though mostly because of Pulp Fiction, but still) - Dusty doing “Son of a Preacher Man” live is also quite a cause for celebration.
Somewhat unrelatedly, this song, also - “Ode to Billie Joe” by Bobbie Gentry - is one hot potato of a great listen. With one of those kind of “Paul is Dead” mysterious backstories that could only become the public fodder it became in the late 60’s and 70’s. Something, you know, in the air.
Moving forward:
Yeah, THIS is how to run a church. Damn right. And I love the Superman theme. John Williams, damn you for your pomp and situation.
And finally, a Van De Graaff Levitation Wand. Just in time for awesome.
Well, it’s pretty cool anyway. Probably gets old fast, but I bet it’s neat for that first 15 minutes.
Connective tissue? We don’t need no connective tissue. Not around here.
So, what’ve we learned? Music, religion, and magickal scientific explosions of superness. And that’s just today. Okay then.
And thanks, Julie! You’re awesome; you did an amazing job shoehorning this dang thing in here.
