Obama is president now! Hooray!
So some follow up on that:
1) Hillary Clinton and her imaginary experience …
2) The most intense unrelated thing ever… (well, no, but if you like Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! you might like this, in a sort of “this isn’t actually a joke” kind of way)… maybe we need to cover this song. Actually, it’s kind of amazing to see this guy’s voice coming out of … well, him.
3) All that said, I’m not sure about this. It just seems altogether unnecessary…
4) Okay, I just re-discovered the first song by Mando Diao I’d ever heard, “The Band”. I love it; it has that Motown-y drum beat thing that always gets me excited. They’re a Swedish indie rock band. They’re like XTC meets the Strokes or something. Which means it’s not, like, amazing music for your soul, but it has a snappy beat and some nice melodies. And that song by Ida Maria I just heard for the first time, “I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked,” also has that same kinda drum beat in it. But it’s a bit more rockabilly at points, and her voice is more PJ Harvey. But it, too, is a party:

No newer new comic yet, but I have it all planned out. It’s gonna be bigger than the Empire State Building! Well not really. But it’ll be something on a web page, anyway.
Thanks, & love you a lot…

Hey all you Boneless Blog Fanatics!
This is the voice of Jonathan (I am that guy at Boneless Children shows who jumps around and sweats a lot and plays the bass too). It is so sincerely satisfying to finally have this opportunity to connect with you on a more personal level. One on one, face to face, cheek to cheek.
There’s nobody here. It’s just you and me.
Would you like to know what else? It’s where I want to be.
People who know me have been perplexed for years why I haven’t already taken up blogging. After all, when not paralyzed by melancholic silence I tend to go on and on about all sorts of shit. Given enough booze (and cheer) I’ve been known to stumble upon truths that even the hopin’est bunny (or the slowest slug) could relate to.
Right now, while trying to write the sentence that follows, something came to mind… So I guess this brings me to my first topic. When to use “a” or “an”. At this point I want to say “This is A historic occasion”. Unfortunately oftentimes in printed literature I’ve read “this is AN historic occasion/event”. I’ve also heard it said that if the word after “a/an” starts with a vowel you should write “an”. Since there have been countless times that I have read in published material “This is/was AN historic occasion/event” I cannot take either statements seriously.
H is not a vowel.
Is this one of those gaps in grammar that nobody really knows the answer to?
Your input is appreciated. Be prepared to back up your statements and also be prepared to come face to face with literature that has been edited and published with text that proves your viewpoint moot as well as valid.
This blog is all about education. Did you know that in 1959 the Crown Prince of Japan broke with centuries of tradition by taking a commoner as his wife? Did you even know that there was a Crown Prince of Japan?
Welcome to my blog. Shall we celebrate? After all, this is an historic occasion.
Sincerely, Jonathan Kepke

So hey everybody. A few new and exciting things:
1) Comic #76! At long last. Hooray! The cake really is roughly 7 months old as of the publishing date, too…
2) So, I’ve finally sync’d and rendered a few video clips from our 6/5/2008 Hotel Utah show last year. We got Relax going on:

and some Beekeeper action:

And that is all the video for now. But it is fun to have some video up & around, so we’ll try to make it a more regular thing. Kinda exciting.
3) I’m still feeling optimistic about this whole “new year” thing, even though there’s not much cause for optimism. Well, sometimes there is a bit. But still. I guess we’ll just see how this whole thing plays out.
4) Oh, that reminds me. Someone took David Lee Roth’s isolated vocal track from “Runnin’ With the Devil” and ran it through Songsmith to make this. It’s like a David Lee Roth/Wesley Willis collaboration. Whereas this is more of a David Lee Roth solo effort…

So the good news is my voice survived long enough for me to thrash the living hell out of it at the Red Devil Lounge last night. Which was delightful. Thanks to everyone who came by, and also to the Great Sand Waste for bringing us in, and to Cartographer for closing down the night in their wonderful, wonderful way! And of course thanks to you three ballet pole dancers doing your thing in the back of the room during Cartographer’s set, who made it so intriguing to be… well, standing in the back of the room. If you want to be our stage show ever, just drop us a line. You’re hired. You got it, kid - you got what it takes.
Anyway, so on to Beyonce. Everybody except me apparently heard about this but I offer for your viewing pleasure the Beyonce video for “Single Ladies”:

And now the part that “everyone” heard about - the Gwen Verdon dance performance (from the Ed Sullivan show, it appears?) to the tune of “Mexican Breakfast” (not sure about that - doesn’t sound like huevos rancheros to me…) which many on the skeptical internet have claimed is far, far too similar to Beyonce’s video for their comfort:

I mean, come on - it really shouldn’t shock people that modern pop music dance choreography isn’t just blazing a new trail of wonderful, and certainly shouldn’t surprise anyone that a pop music diva’s dancey dance performance might be an homage, shall we say, to a performance choreographed by Bob Fosse. Of all people. As though any fancy sex-time pop music dance done today isn’t done in his shadow to some extent. But we are all, apparently, quite shocked and appalled modern pop music artists who dance are not entirely making up new and avant garde dance notions when they produce their videos. Since pop music is such the bastion of progressiveness. Shocked, shocked and appalled. Since we all such fans of modern, experimental and new dance.
Shockingly yours,
David

So, it’s 2009 now. Hooray! Excitement in date form…
What’s going on that’s noteworthy? Oh so many things…
1) People are still trying to impeach Barack Obama - a President who has yet to do anything as President, or even be President yet. In fact, these folks started a facebook group back on November 5, 2008. It not only seems silly to me to threaten to impeach a President before they take office, since, as these folk say, “we might as well get a head start on the impeachment of Obama,” but it also seems to show a certain witch-hunt mentality on the part of the would-be impeachers. Would people feel as free to do this if Obama were white? Probably not. Joy. Thank you, America. Maybe I’m wrong, but it feels like a little bit of soul-crushing in a sea of optimism-in-the-face-of-no-reason-to-be-optimistic.
2) A new comic is coming soon…this week for sure!
3) If only James Brown had done a series of instructional dance videos in the 70’s. This is not enough, but what it is is amazing:

Get down. God damn.
4) Flow charts. For 2009, I think it’s going to be all about flow charts.
5) Boneless Children Foundation show this wednesday (in just 2 short days!) at San Francisco’s Red Devil Lounge! Don’t forget. Yes, it is true that our musician friends Sean Hayes and Michael Musika are playing the same night at the Rickshaw Stop. And that will be a wonderful show, as will ours. But if you want to get your drink on with David, Jon and/or Logan of the Boneless Children Foundation, then you’ll have to go to the Red Devil Lounge… just a fact of life, folks… and as the Firesign Theatre said, “How can you be in two places at once when you’re not anywhere at all?“ And just to remind you, the line up includes:
And there you go.
Hope to see you there…
